In Part 2 of this post I will be covering the slumping process to make the final fused glass bowl. You may remember, this is a 245mm square bowl with a Kawasaki theme. It is made from Bullseye 90 COE glass.
The final bowl turned out fantastic, as you will see.
In Part 1 I went through the full process of making the square piece ready for slumping in the kiln. This was probably the most difficult part, but slumping is the most stressful, for me at least. Not enough and it won’t sit well, too much and the sides will pull in.
Anyway, you can see the flat piece sitting on the mold in this photo. The piece was cleaned well prior, as normal, and inspected for any small corrections necessary. At this stage you can finely grind any rough bits and they should fire polish out during the slump.
The mold had been prepared with Bullseye Primo Primer according to their instructions.
In the second photo you can see the finished bowl.
There isn’t that much I can say about this slumping process and in hindsight maybe a Part 2 wasn’t needed, but hey, don’t you love the suspense.
Anyway, I love the result and would love to do more theme pieces like this.
