I called it a Fertility Bowl!

Fused Glass Fertility Bowl

My guess is that you’re wondering what the heck a Fertility Bowl is. Well, study the bowl for a few moments and I am sure you will understand why I called it that.

I didn’t intend to make a ‘fertility bowl’. It just seemed to evolve. Anyway, read on and I hope you enjoy.

Making a Fused Glass Part Sheet

Fused Glass Part Sheet

If you are not already familiar with part sheets, they are custom-made sheets of glass with some sort of pattern. The pattern could be anything, even plain colours if you desire.

These sheets are then cut up and used as components in some other project, such as a central feature in a glass bowl.

Anyway, this post is about creating a part sheet using powdered glass frit.

Fused Glass Features for a Fireplace Mantle

Fuse Glass Fireplace Mantle

This is a simple little project that may give you some inspiration to use fused glass in new ways.

In our home we have a brick fireplace that has always looked quite bare. It has no mantle and really looks unfinished. So for a few years I have been looking for a suitable fireplace mantle to finish it off.

Finally, I found a very cheap, $20,  second-hand mantel that could do the job.

Turquoise Fused Glass Honeycomb Bowl

Honeycomb Plate

This glass fusing project has been hanging around on my list for some time now.  Not sure why exactly, but it may be because I knew it would be a little tedious. You will see what I mean a little later.

Anyway, the time came to give it a go.

Coasters for Fay

Fused Glass Coasters

Is there a theme starting here? A clock for Jacob, now coasters for Fay! Mmm…maybe not.

Anyway, yes, this is a set of coasters for my sister Fay. Not the first post on coasters, but each has been a learning experience and a lot of fun making.

These had to match her kitchen decor so powder blue and white were the thing. So let’s get into it.

Fused Glass Clock for Jacob

Fused Glass Clock

My first attempt at a clock worked out fine, for a while at least. That is until the clock fractured through the hole I had drilled the hole for the movement. It was hanging on the wall in the studio at the time so you can guess what happened when it hit the concrete floor.

Time has come for another clock. This time as a gift for my grandson Jacob.

Layered Checkerboard Bowl

Fused Glass Bowl

This piece was inspired by my interest in a more 3D approach to fused glass pieces, combined with a few pieces I had admired previously that displayed a beautiful repeating pattern of transmitted and reflected light.

Being a geometric guy, and looking for a simple repeating pattern, the chess board design seemed like a great starting point. I then added an easy to achieve 3D affect that I think you will like.

Square Bowl with Tack Fused Stripe Pattern

This fused glass project was a bit more of a task than I expected, but I do think it was all worth it. I can say that now it is completed, but cutting all those strips of Bullseye glass did make me dig deep looking for the patience to continue.

The basic idea was to create a clear bowl decorated with a very geometric pattern of stripes. I like geometric designs and texture so thought a tack fused strip design would do the trick.

Using Fused Glass Dots to Make Jewellery

Fused Glass Cab Designs

We have been making round fused glass cabochons for some time now, but never tried to use them for much else other than stud earrings. With a little thought it seemed that they could be used to make a range of designs for more interesting earrings and pendants.

A few tests later I found that there were a couple of factors that influenced the final result.

Trying Colour de Verre Moulds for Jewellery

Colour de Verre Moulds

For some time I have been meaning to try a Colour de Verre mould for small fused glass jewellery pieces. Well, I finally made the time and you may, or may not, be surprised to find that using the moulds is not quite as simple as thought.

Making Personal Coasters

Family Fused Glass Coasters

Making something yourself gives you a satisfaction that you just can’t get any other way. Especially when the end result is totally unique fused glass art. Doing something like that with your children creates memories that last a lifetime.

Some time ago my son John and his family were visiting so I decided this was a great opportunity to do just that.

Recycled Textured Float Glass Fusing Test

Textured Float Glass Test

Curiosity finally got the better of me and I just had to test fuse some textured plate-glass. This is the type of glass used in doors, and other areas where privacy is an issue. In fact, the pieces I used came out of an old door I had sitting around under the house for some time.

So how did it go?
