How to Make Simulated Turquoise Using Fused Glass

Fused Glass Tutorial

The technique I use to make this isn’t complicated but there are a few considerations that you need to keep in mind.

You will need just your glass kiln, the relevant glass or frit, and some way to dam up the glass into a slab.

In the video I start with fusing up the egg shaped cabochons, then move onto how I use the Cricut machine to first design the cabs and then how to actually cut out the decals from fusible decal paper. We then go on to applying the decals and then firing them.

How to Find Cool Spots in Your Glass Fusing Kiln

Glass Kiln

Glass fusing kilns come in all shapes and sizes, but the one thing they have in common is the potential to have cool spots. These are areas within the kiln where the temperature is slightly cooler than the rest of the kiln. This means that the glass in those areas will not process as much as in other areas.

In this video I’ll talk about why its’ important to know your kiln, some of the reasons why cool spots may exist, and a simple test I perform to find where in a new kiln these cool spots may occur.
