Cutting a Crystal Dichroic Cabochon into an Oval Shape.

This material I made some time ago and have cut cabochons from it before, but it’s always an adventure. Sometimes they end up a big non-event, but this one isn’t that bad. Hard to see in the video, but it does have great flashes of colour.

Cabochon Tutorial, Cutting a Rich Blue Cushion Cabochon

The material I’m using here to cut this cushion cabochon promised something special. The rough had a rich blue colour with flashes of gold and pink. The final stone did not disappoint, though it did end up smaller than expected.

Cabochon Cutting Tutorial, Seam Dichroic Fused Glass

This video tutorial covers me hand cutting a piece of seam or banded, dichroic fused glass. This is something I made as an experiment. It’s a mix of opaque and crystal and hence needs to be set in the appropriate setting.

Cutting a Red Oval Cabochon from New Material

In this video tutorial, I’ll show how I cut an oval cabochon from some experimental rough material. This material is similar to Jefanite but is basically dichroic glass on a red background.

As I cut this piece you’ll see just how the red cabochon is revealed and in the end, you can share your view of the material and finished cabochon in the video’s comments.

Exposing a Dark Blue Cabochon by Hand Cutting a Piece of Rough Dichroic Fused Glass

This piece of dark blue dichroic fused glass was hand cut into a long cushion shape. While it is dark, rich blue splashes do make it a beautiful and mysterious piece.

Hand Cutting a Dichroic Fused Glass Cabochon into an Oval Shape

This is a dichroic cabochon as it came out of the kiln. Like many cabs, straight from the kiln, they could do with some cold working. So I set about hand cutting this cab into a better oval shape.

Hand Cutting a Golden Pinfire Blue Oval Cabochon

This piece of Jefanite will be cut into a beautiful stone. It has a purple shimmer over blue background and golden pinfire. I will be cutting it into a wide oval shape.

Cutting a Blue Green Oval Cabochon from Scrap

A piece of blue-green Jefanite that was leftover from a larger slab really didn’t inspire me too much. However, after some thought, I decided to cut it and the result was a beautiful oval cabochon. This cabochon will make a wonderful pendant or another item of jewellery.

Hand Cutting a Fiery Blue Fused Glass Cabochon for Jewellery

In this cabochon cutting tutorial, I’ll be cutting a piece of rough fused glass into an oval shape.

The piece of rough was nearly discarded until I took a close look. The piece had some fiery flashes and an interesting internal structure. I then decided to cut the piece and it didn’t fail to surprise me.

How to Hand Cut a Fused Glass Puddle Cabochon

In this cabochon cutting tutorial, I’ll be cutting a puddle cabochon into an oval shape.

Being a puddle cabochon its shape is irregular and I need a cabochon that is a uniform oval shape and size. Mainly because I want to set it into a symmetrical oval low-sided bezel setting. If I was happy to make a custom setting with high sides, I wouldn’t need to do this, but that’s not the aim here.
