Obviously, the best and most accurate way to determine your ring size is to visit your local jeweller and ask them to measure it. They will do so using the correct equipment.
However, there are a couple of methods you can try yourself. We suggest you try both these and if they return the same result you can be reasonably confident it is correct.
We stress, these methods can be inaccurate if not performed correctly. Which is why we suggest you try both methods fully. If you get varying results, give up and go visit your local jeweller.
Method 1
This method tries to accurately determine the circumference around your finger, then uses that measurement against a conversion chart to determine your ring size.
You will need a piece of string that will not stretch, dental floss, a strip of paper, a pen and an accurate ruler.
- Wrap the string around your finger and mark where it meets.
- Use a good accurate ruler to measure the length in mm or inches.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 with the dental floss and strip of paper. If the measurements match, continue to step 4. If not, repeat until you are confident the measurement is correct.

Method 2
This method is similar, but just done with a strip of paper, though it is repeated 3 times until you get a consistent measurement.
You will need 3 strips of paper long enough to go around your finger to form a paper ring, sticky tape, a pair of scissors, a pen and an accurate ruler.
- Wrap the strip of paper around your finger and sticky tape it together to form a ring.
- Check that it slides on and off your finger as desired.
- Take the paper ring off and cut it so you have a length that can be measured.
- Measure the length of the paper.
